The Physician is responsible for the delivery of primary medical care to a diverse student population focusing on preventative, maintenance and restorative care and employing evidence-based practice. S/he functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the Medical Clinics, consisting of physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. S/he should have a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model, partnering with Mental Health Service and Wellness and Health Promotion, and a commitment to advancing the divisional priorities of quality, access and inclusion, and mattering and belonging.

Job Responsibilities:

• 90% Provides assessment, diagnosis, and appropriate medical management for acute illnesses, injuries and stable chronic illnesses, as well as primary care services such as health maintenance care and annual physicals; orders appropriate diagnostic tests, performs minor surgical procedures, prescribes medication, and makes specialty, counseling and coaching referrals as appropriate; documents care in the electronic health record, employing care protocols and proper coding; provides consultation on complex or high risk cases.
• 5% Participates in unit meetings, campus education initiatives, quality improvement activities, mandatory LSU trainings and SHC yearly trainings, peer review and performance improvement studies.
• 5% Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• M.D. or D.O.
• Must be post-residency

Minimum Certifications/Licenses:

• Board certification
• Current LA Medical License
• Current DEA License and LA Control and Dangerous Substance License
• BLS/CPR

Preferred Qualifications:

• M.D.
• 2 years experience in an ambulatory health care setting
• Experience working with traditional college age students; experience in a college health setting; sports medicine training; commitment to practice that supports a collaborative care model.

Additional Requirements:

May be required to work occasional nights and weekends.

Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities, this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.

In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.

As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.

COVID-19 Vaccine Protocol:

LSU requires the COVID-19 vaccine for all students, faculty, and staff or mandatory monthly testing.
