The physician works within the Hospitalist/10 Section of the Medicine Service to provide direct patient care. · Supervision, training, and teaching of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center General Internal Medicine house staff and students for those applicant assigned to and who meet the qualifications for working on the Teaching Services(must be eligible for UT faculty appointment). Duties include but are not limited to: Perform administrative and committee work related to improving patient care and clinical outcomes. Working on SAIL/Performance measures within the General Internal Medicine Section as directed by the Hospitalist Section Chief Ensures appropriate care, promotion of Health, education and counseling of family members and control of risk factors for all General Medicine patients. Ensures timely and efficient discharge of General Medicine In-patients on teaching or non-teaching services, and ensures appropriate follow up with either a specialty clinic and/or with primary care. Provide medical evaluation and direct the overall management of acutely ill, hospitalized patients with general medical problems on teaching or nonteaching services (no Intensive Care Unit care patients). Ensure that treatment is safe, timely, efficient, efficacious, evidence-based, and patient-centered. Work in collaboration with assigned NPs to perform the General Medicine evaluation, treatment and notes to inpatients admitted to Mental Health wards while assigned to the Medicine/Psychiatry rotation. Work closely with the Chief Medical Residents and ensure proper teaching and supervision of the Medical Residents assigned to General Medicine. Achieve credentialing and regular re-credentialing by maintaining State Medical Licensure, certification, Board Certified/Board Eligible, (ABIM), Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiac life Support (ACLS) certification, Drug Enforcement Act (DEA) certification, and other required credentialing from the Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). Supervise, train and educate a team of residents and interns, and students from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (UTHSC).
