The VAMC Lebanon Behavioral Health and Sciences Care (BH&S) Line is seeking an Internal Medicine/Family Practice Physician to join our medical team to provide medical care to our bed sections in inpatient and domiciliary care. The Incumbent will also serve as the supervisor for the other medical clinicians' practice and medical care in the Inpatient Acute Psychiatry Unit and Residential Rehabilitation programs, and within any other areas served by BH&S, as needed. This is a Supervisory Position. Medical Physicians are able to provide medical care in the areas assigned and consistent with their training and also supervise other clinicians reporting to them. They also supervise/train trainees rotating through respective services (e.g. medical students, physician assistant, medicine/psychiatry residents, fellows, etc.). Major duties include: Application of accepted protocols for medical care, taking history and physical, placing orders, communicating with other clinicians in the team and/or consultant through various services, and providing routine follow up on patients under these services' care, etc. Diagnostic description or formulation to guide appropriate treatment interventions. Provision of medical care according to his/her privileges. Responsibilities of the Medical Physician Responsible for all aspects of medical care. Provide or assist residents and/or the mid-level provider/s in the process of patient care. Evaluate the patient to assess changes in the physical and mental status. A progress note is written in the patient's chart. Notes also include the concurrence with notes written by the resident and attending notes and co-signatures as appropriate. Together with the team, round on patients and participate in the interdisciplinary team discussions/reviews. Perform inpatient and residential consultations and treatment, and consultations and treatment in other program areas, as needed. During on-call hours, medical physicians shall be available for all emergent medical interventions. Appropriately credentialed and privileged. They participate in various hospital committees, departmental and hospital in-service programs, and education programs of the department and the hospital. They are also involved in continuous quality improvement through peer review and quality note review processes. Responsible primarily for provision and oversight of medical care in our inpatient and residential care units, and participate in medical education/training of graduate/undergraduate and other trainees rotating with us.
