The Shelby County Government in Memphis, Tennessee is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as Health Officer for the Shelby County Health Department. Reporting to and collaborating with the Director of Health Services, with administrative and programmatic responsibility for Infectious Disease, Public Health Preparedness as well as related Pharmacy and Laboratory Programs. Serves a Chief Medical Officer for the Department, providing medical consult across the Department. Provides leadership and clinical supervision for physicians and advanced practices nurses. Utilizes public health law to address actual or potential health threats. Responds to and provides medical leadership during public health emergencies. As a member of the executive team, informs organizational priorities and strategy. Serves as Department spokesperson on health and environmental issues.

A qualified candidate must be a physician licensed in Tennessee with unlimited DEA and Board Certified in a related medical specialty (preventive medicine, family practice, internal medicine, or pediatrics). A successful candidate will possess a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible program development or management experience in public health or health administration. A Master’s degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration or a closely related field.
